The Casella Sinfonietta, conducted by Dr. Kevin M. Geraldi, was founded in 2008 as an enhancement to the ensemble offerings in the UNCG School of Music. The ensemble performs a range of works from Gabrieli to Daugherty, functioning on a professional model. The personnel for each semester is determined by the repertoire, allowing the finest performers on wind, brass, string, percussion, and keyboard instruments the highest-level experience possible. Typically, rehearsals begin two weeks prior to a concert, with each piece on the program receiving four or five rehearsals - similar to what students might experience in a professional setting. Faculty and guest soloists frequently appear with the ensemble, and in 2010 the Casella Sinfonietta will perform and record the world premiere of a new work by UNCG faculty composer Mark Engebretson, and record a concerto with UNCG professor of saxophone Steven Stusek. |
